LEGISLATIVE DRAFTING AND LEGAL SERVICES DIRECTORATE.
Legislative Drafting and Legal Services Directorate is the legal and legislative drafting backbone of the Lagos State House of Assembly and it is saddled with the following responsibilities –
• Attend plenary session and issue legal advice on matters arising;
• Draft and review bills to ensure proposed law(s) achieve the state’s policy objective legally and constitutionally;
• Conduct periodic review of obsolete laws to meet current realities;
• Transmit printed laws passed by the House to the Governor’s office for Governor’s assent;
• Gazetting of assented laws;
- Attends to enquiries from State Houses of Assembly and corporate bodies on laws enacted by the House;
- Coordinates the staging of Executive Briefings and covers the proceedings at the session;
- Communicates the Resolutions of the House.
- Drafts motions for Honourable Members;
- Compiles Resolutions of the House for ease of reference;
- Educates visitors/students on parliamentary practice and procedures daily;
- Coordinates the inauguration and sitting of Lagos State Youth Parliament bi-annually and quarterly respectively; and Produces Directorate publication: House at a Glance.
The Directorate is divided as follows: Legislative Scrutiny; Research & Admin.; Chamber; Parliamentary Education; Bills and Petitions & Committee Secretariat.
The Directorate is divided into the following units –
• Legislative Drafting;
• Advisory;
• Research; and
• Litigation.
